NICKLOUS DENKLAU OF ELDRIDGE DIES THIS MORNING
Invalid for Several Years, Old Resident Passes Away

Nicklous Denklau, old resident of this community, died this morning at 8:10 a.m., at his home here after a lingering illness, being invalided for many years.  For the past two years he has been unable to leave the house and since last Monday he has been bed ridden.  His wife passed away this New Years's Day, 1925.

The deceased was born May 10, 1853 in Ostermarkelsdorf, Fehmarn, Germany to Hans and Catharina (Sahn) Dencklau and came to Scott county at the age of 16 years.  He was married on January 14, 1876 in Davenport to Mrs. Amelia Klindt and the couple settled on a farm east of Eldridge, from which they retired 20 years ago, moving into Eldridge.

The following children survive: Gustave and Adolph Denklau, Mrs. Herman (Emma) Moeller, Mrs. Rudolph (Mattie) Amhof, Mrs. Herman (Laura) Grill and Mathilda Denklau; two step-sons, Louis and William Klindt; one step-daughter, Mrs. Minnie Stoltenberg; four brothers, Friedrich, Matthaus, Christian and Jacob Denklau, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and a half sister, Mrs. Gertrude Petersen of Duncombe, Iowa.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Emma Lage.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home in Eldridge and interment will be made in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.

Jim Druhl was born in Fehmarn Germany November 12, 1851, and passed away at the home of his daughter in Shelby Iowa January 29, 1916 at midnight, being sick but three days of pneumonia, at the age of 64 years, 2 months, and 17 days.

Deceased came to Davenport Iowa and was married to Miss Dora Schultz in 1872.  To this union seven children were born, one of whom died in infancy.  Later they came to Kellogg.  His wife died on June 19, 1886.

In 1888 he was united in marriage with Miss Dora Sangerol, one child being born to them.  They then moved to Minnesota.

Since the death of his 2nd wife about two years ago he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Normand, at Shelby, Iowa.

The remains were brought to Kellogg last Friday, and on Saturday afternoon funeral services were held at the German cemetery, where internment was made.

He leaves six daughters and one son to mourn his death, all being present at the funeral except three.   Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Normand of Shelby, Iowa; Mrs. Amanda Hammond of Omaha Nebraska, MRs. Amelia Pederson of Benson Nebraska; Mrs. Katie Arndt of LeGrand Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Mr. John Schultz of Chicago Illinois.
